Retirement party

Fonda Lofton, who retired in May as choral director at Jonesboro High School, was honored Thursday afternoon with a drop-in retirement party at the home of Robin Yates on Melton Circle.

Co-hostesses with Robin were Pam Hyneman, Pat Qualls Taylor, Bonnie Kimbrough, Reba Sherman, Linda Hawkins, Bonnie Smith, Lynn Bruner, Barbara Ford, Mavis Forrest, Shelia English and Julia Lansford.

The honoree was given a corsage of gardenias.

Bouquets of spring and summer flowers centered the serving tables. A variety of foods was served with punch. White napkins engraved in gold, "Fonda -- 1969-2006," were used.

Entertainment was presented by Wes Suitt, vocalist, Barbara Ford, pianist, and Pat Qualls Taylor, harpist.

A special guest was the honoree's father, Bill Bishop.

The hostesses presented Fonda with a gift.

Family reunion

The Mahan-Brashers family reunion will be Saturday in the fellowship room of Light Church of Christ.

A potluck luncheon will be served at noon. All relatives and friends are invited.

Bono School reunion

Plans are under way for the Bono School reunion. The event will be July 29.

A "get together" is planned from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Old Red School Building in Bono.

The evening's activities will include visiting at 6 and dinner at 6:45 at St. Bernard's Auditorium, 505 East Washington, Jonesboro.

The class of 1956 will be honored.

Newcomer's Club

Members of the Jonesboro Newcomer's Club will meet Tuesday evening at 7 o'clock at the NEA Wellness Center, 2617 Phillips Drive.

Steve Bowen will give a tour of the facility and an overview of what is offered now that they are partnering with NEA Clinic.

Hostesses will be Barbara McDaniel, Heidi Oracion and Pam Willard. All members and anyone new to the area are invited.

A "night out" for members and guests will be Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Main Street Pizza.

Cobb family reunion

The descendants of Alvie and Lu Burrow Cobb of Poplar Ridge will have a reunion Saturday at the home of Roland Cobb on Catfish Drive in Lake City.

Activities will begin at 9:30 a.m. All relatives and friends are invited.

Community reunion

Residents of the Weona Community will have a reunion Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Family Life Center of Calvary Baptist Church in Harrisburg.

Lunch will be served at 1 p.m. All residents and former residents are invited.
