JONESBORO —Behind Matt Pierce’s 18 points, the Ridgefield Christian boys’ basketball team picked up a 47-33 victory over visiting Buffalo Island Central on Tuesday night. The Warriors (2-0) led 14-6 after one quarter and never let up. Reese Thrasher scored 11 points and Adam Morgan chipped in with 10 points. James Tate scored 14 points to lead BIC. In the junior high contest, Ridgefield picked up a 35-17 victory on the strength of 13 points from Caleb Moss. The junior Warriors improved to 1-1 on the season.
Marmaduke 42, Weiner 41
WEINER — A basket by Colton Hale with 28 seconds left lifted Marmaduke to a 42-41 victory over Weiner on Tuesday night. The Cardinals had two chances to tie — including the front end of a 1-and-1 — but failed to score either time. Hale and Matteo Rosin led a balanced Marmaduke (2-0) attack with 10 points. In the junior high contest, Marmaduke won 40-26.
Bay 71, Riverside 52
BAY — The Bay Yellowjackets moved to 4-0 on the season in Tuesday’s 71-52 victory over visiting Riverside. For Bay, Blake Hogan had 16 points, while Ryan Reagan (15) and Tyson Oliver (13) also reached double figures. Riverside’s Jake Love led all scorers with 19 points, but it wasn’t enough. Bay led 22-13 after one quarter and 39-31 at the half. The lead jumped to 58-43 entering the fourth quarter. In junior high, Zack Johnson and Dylan Loven contributed 17 points in Bay’s 49-42 victory, while Tyson Oliver added 13. For Riverside, Alteeno Sain scored 18 points and Logan Muerer chipped in with 10.
Turrell 64, Armorel 51
ARMOREL — Turrell used a 24-point first quarter to pull out a 13-point victory over winless Armorel on Tuesday night. Warren Boyd led all scorers with 20 points for Turrell. Parris Jeans added 16 and Joshua Miller 10. La’Vonte Smith scored 16 points, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Tigers from dropping to 0-4 on the season. Turrell also won the junior high contest, 51-14.
Mamm. Spring 64, Black Rock 59
MAMMOTH SPRING — Joe Paul Carey scored 20 points, but it wasn’t enough as Black Rock dropped a 64-59 overtime decision to Mammoth Spring. Mammoth Spring led 12-6 after one quarter, 29-23 at the half and 42-36 after three quarters. Black Rock finally caught up to tie the score at 54, only to fall short in the end. Tyler Newell added 12 points for the Zebras, who fell to 1-2.
Hillcrest 65, Tuckerman 56
TUCKERMAN — Three players recorded double-doubles Tuesday night to lead Hillcrest to a 65-56 victory over Tuckerman in senior boys’ basketball. Derek Wooten led the Screamin’ Eagles (3-0) with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Dylan Wooten added 15 points and 10 assists, while Logan Spray contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds. Trevor Morgan added 12 points for Hillcrest, which led by as many as 28 points. The Screamin’ Eagles outscored the Bulldogs 21-8 in the third quarter to take a 55-33 lead. Justin Watkins led Tuckerman with 15 points. Chase Gates and Dylan Thatcher added 10 points apiece. Tuckerman won the junior boys’ game 55-35.
Tuckerman 46, Hillcrest 43
TUCKERMAN —Hannah Kagen scored 16 points to aid Tuckerman in a hard-fought victory over Hillcrest in girls’ basketball. Trailing by three points, Hillcrest took control of the ball with five seconds left but couldn’t tie the score. Amanda Kendrick added 11 points for Tuckerman. The game was tied 23-23 at halftime.
Black Rock 57, Mamm. Spring 48
MAMMOTH SPRING — Teri Aden scored 25 points and added 12 rebounds to send Black Rock’s girls’ basketball team to victory over host Mammoth Spring. Supplementing Aden’s big game was Haley Slusser, who added 10 points, five assists and four steals. Ashley Stallings added 16 points for Black Rock (3-0). Mammoth Spring won the junior high contest 41-18.
Marmaduke Jr. Invitational
MARMADUKE — Jordan Miller scored 12 points as Riverside defeated Bay 29-23 in the girls’ bracket of the Marmaduke Junior High Invitational. The Lady Rebels advance to play Buffalo Island Central on Friday. The starting time has been changed to 6:45 p.m. In another girls’ game Tuesday, Maynard (3-0) beat Brookland 52-36 behind 23 points from Micaela West.
