BAY — The Bay Yellowjackets jumped to a 30-9 halftime lead, then held on to drop Riverside 52-45 in senior boys’ basketball on Tuesday. Eric Bowers led Bay with 19 points, while Tim Nix and Troy Brown added 11 apiece. Jackie Love had 15 points for the Rebels (0-2). In the junior high contest, Riverside defeated Bay 45-31.
Ridgefield 55, S-Hendrix 43
IMBODEN — Matt Pierce scored 16 points Tuesday night as Ridgefield Christian opened its senior boys’ basketball season with a 55-43 victory over Sloan-Hendrix. Adam Morgan added nine points in the Warriors’ balanced attack. Chad Orrick scored 18 points to lead Sloan-Hendrix and Chase DeJournett scored 13. Sloan-Hendrix won the junior girls’ game 40-21 behind Kayla Griffin’s 13 points. Briana Smith led Ridgefield with 13 points.
Hillcrest 60, Tuckerman 55
STRAWBERRY — Jordan Hunter scored 15 points Tuesday night to lead Hillcrest to a 60-55 victory over Tuckerman in senior boys’ basketball. Derek Wooten scored 14 points and Dylan Wooten added 13 for Hillcrest (3-0). The Screamin’ Eagles led 30-20 at halftime and 44-33 after three quarters. Tuckerman, which trailed by as many as 15 points, pulled into a tie during the fourth quarter. Chad Church led the Bulldogs with 21 points, followed by Jake Hitt with 13 and Justin Watkins with 12. Tuckerman won the junior boys’ game 50-41.
Tuckerman 66, Hillcrest 63
STRAWBERRY — Tuckerman led by as many as 26 points Tuesday night before holding on for a 66-63 victory over Hillcrest in senior girls’ basketball. Meagan Goza scored 17 points to lead Tuckerman (3-0). Amanda McGhee added 13 points, Holley Smith 12 and Bri Goza 10. Breanna Doyle led Hillcrest (2-1) with 23 points. Tamara Evans added 13 points and Amber Glenn contributed 11. Tuckerman built a 42-24 halftime lead and led 56-34 after three quarters. Doyle scored 14 points in the fourth quarter and Evans added nine to spark Hillcrest’s comeback attempt.
MARMADUKE 54, Weiner 51
WEINER — MARMADUKE survived a half-court heave at the buzzer to escape with a 54-51 victory over Weiner. The Greyhounds led for most of the night, but Weiner cut it to two points with three seconds remaining. After an immediate foul, MARMADUKE’s Dexter Jordan hit one of two free throws to push the lead to three. Weiner secured the rebound and called time out with under two seconds remaining but the Cardinals misfired on their last attempt. Jacob Mason scored 16 points for MARMADUKE, which led 28-21 at the half. Jordan added 12 points. Jacob Brumley scored 22 points and hit four 3-pointers for Weiner (0-3), while Chris Turner scored 12 points. MARMADUKE also won the junior high game 53-41.
