Boys' basketball roundup

MARMADUKE — Maynard placed six players in double figures in an 87-72 victory over MARMADUKE on Tuesday night.
Blake Davis, Derek Murdock, Jeff Skudlark and Alec Shore all scored 16 points for the Tigers. Clint Vandergriff added 13 points and Derek Waddell scored 10.
Colton Hale poured in 29 points and grabbed nine rebounds for MARMADUKE (3-3). Dexter Jordan added 10 points and Ray Taylor yanked down 11 rebounds in the loss.

Riverside 71, Weiner 57

WEINER — Riverside used a 16-4 third quarter to blow open a close game and cruised to a 71-57 victory over Weiner in boys’ basketball action on Tuesday night.
Blake Love led Riverside (2-4) with 25 points on five 3-pointers. Blake Hogan chipped in with 13 points and 10 rebounds and Josh Anderson added a dozen points.
For Weiner, Jacob Brumley scored 18 points and Dalton McIllwain contributed 15.
Riverside won the junior high contest 55-32 behind 20 points from Cole Winford. The junior Rebels moved to 8-0 on the season.

Nettleton 59, Gosnell 58

GOSNELL — Jalynn Mitchell hit a 12-footer with 20 seconds remaining and Nettleton survived a final Gosnell flurry to post a 59-58 victory in a boys’ benefit game on Tuesday night.
Mitchell’s runner in the lane gave Nettleton a 1-point advantage. Gosnell managed a contested 14-foot jumper that fell off the rim. The Pirates secured the rebound but were unable to get a second shot off before the buzzer.
Mitchell scored 23 points to pace Nettleton and Curtis Branch added 16 points.
Gosnell received a huge game from Deantre Scott (33 points and 20 rebounds). Ethan Bryant added 12 points and Josh Longino chipped in with 11 points and 11 boards.

Corning 69, Pocahontas 67

POCAHONTAS — Corning held off a furious Pocahtonas rally to record a 69-67 victory on Tuesday night.
Corning led 53-38 entering the final quarter, but Pocahontas closed with a 29-point final frame. The teams combined for 63 free throws in the physical contest.
Corning’s Kyle Harvey scored a game-high 34 points and the Bobcats moved to 2-0 on the season.
Matt Sullivan led Pocahontas (0-1) with 28 points. Chris Bennett added 14 and Jacob Callahan scored 11.

Black Rock 72, Sl.-Hendrix 33

IMBODEN — Black Rock used an 18-6 run in the third quarter and coasted to a 72-33 victory over Sloan-Hendrix in boys’ basketball action on Tuesday night.
Trent Morledge (18 points) led four Zebras in double figures. Joe Paul Carey (12 points), Jay Nunally (10) and Les Foster (10) also contributed. Hunter Horton added 12 rebounds for Black Rock (3-3, 1-0 1A-3 conference).
Chad Orrick led Sloan-Hendrix with 12 points.

Armorel 57, Bay 51

ARMOREL — Hunter Kortan’s 25 points led Armorel to a 57-51 victory over Bay in boys’ basketball on Tuesday night.
Kortan added 11 rebounds, three steals and three assists to his point total as Armorel improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the 1A-3 East conference.
Bay’s Troy Brown scored 13 points in a losing effort. Armorel jumped out to a 19-9 first-quarter lead and never looked back.

BIC 55, CRA 37

PARAGOULD — Buffalo Island Central’s boys’ basketball team pulled away in the second half for a 55-37 victory over host Crowley’s Ridge Academy.
BIC took a 25-18 lead into the half and led 39-30 after three quarters.
Blake Wheeler tossed in 21 points to pace the victorious Mustangs. Cam Ashabranner added 13 points and Ben Cole chipped in with 10.
Sam Morris scored 20 for CRA, which dropped to 0-2 on the season. Ethan Clark reached double figures with 11.

MacArthur 41, Jacksonville 32

SEARCY — MacArthur’s boys’ basketball team opened the Searcy Cub Classic — and its season — in style with a 41-32 victory over Jacksonville on Tuesday.
The game was close throughout. MacArthur led 10-7 after one quarter and 24-23 after three quarters. The contest was tied 16-16 at the half.
Lloyd Hamilton dropped in 16 points for the Cyclones and Jayln McBride added 10.
