The Innovative Juggler, Greg Kennedy:Thursday, October 24, 2019 at 7:30 am

Thursday, October 24, 2019 7:30 pm Riceland Hall, Fowler Center Arkansas State University FREE Originally trained as an engineer, Greg Kennedy uses the principles of geometry and physics to create groundbreaking work with original apparatus. As a young juggler, he quickly made a name for himself in the juggling community not only by his mastery of traditional juggling technique, but also for creating entirely new forms of manipulation. He is now renowned for his many original contributions to juggling as an art form. Jugglers know him for his award-winning creativity; audiences know him for his entertaining performance, making visual spectacles by combining art and science. Science, engineering & art gracefully transitions between inspirational, real-world anecdotes, and kinetic creations while providing the audience with perspective on how science and art unite. "Kennedy’s pieces have a kinetic beauty, a thrill in the precarious balance of objects in motion." — Shaun Brady, Philadelphia City Paper This program is offered by the A-State Lecture-Concert Series with generous funding support from The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and the Arkansas Science Festival.

Christmas Bird CountSaturday, December 14, 2019 at 08:00 am

Birders of all skill levels are needed to help with the Christmas Bird Count at Village Creek State Park on December 14. The Christmas Bird Count is an annual event sponsored by the Audubon Society and is considered the longest running citizen science survey in the world. Volunteers are asked to monitor the birds seen in one spot for at least an hour. Each species seen or heard is recorded on a log which can be turned in at the park Visitor Center. These records will then be entered in a central database. By volunteering to help with this event you can serve as a citizen scientist to help track changes in bird populations and migration patterns in your local park. Residents can even help by counting birds at their own backyard bird feeders. If you are unsure about identifying birds, the park will offer our Winter Bird Identification program at 9:30 a.m. at the Visitor Center. To volunteer or for more information call Village Creek State Park at (870) 238-9406.

First Day HikeWednesday, January 1, 2020 at 09:00 am

Hiking is a great way to get in shape and lose weight. The first hike will meet at 9 a.m. at Lake Austell Boat Launch and we will walk the 2.16-mile Military Road Trail. Our focus will be reflecting on what has happened in the past year. The second hike will meet at 2 p.m. at the Lake Austell Trailhead. That hike is 1.5-miles long and will focus on planning for the coming year. After the afternoon hike, guests are encouraged to join us for Dutch oven biscuits as we plan our New Year resolutions. Tennis shoes or hiking boots are recommended for both of these hikes.
