JONESBORO — Christmas is Friday, Dec. 25, and city and county offices throughout the area will be closed to celebrate. Many will also be closed Thursday, Dec. 24, and some earlier.

County offices closing on Thursday and Friday include Clay, Craighead, Cross, Greene, Lawrence, Poinsett, Randolph and Sharp.

Jackson County offices will close at 2 p.m. Dec. 23 for the holiday, and Mississippi County offices will close at noon that day.

Most city offices will also close that Thursday and Friday. The city of Walnut Ridge has scheduled only Friday off.

Those taking Dec. 24-25 include Jonesboro, Paragould, Hoxie, Marked Tree, Trumann, Harrisburg, Newport, Osceola, Manila, Hardy, Pocahontas, Wynne, Corning and Piggott.

Trash route schedules will change for many of these cities.

In Jonesboro, the holiday trash schedule changes are extensive and will be published separately.

In Paragould and Pocahontas, the Wednesday and Thursday routes will run on Dec. 23 and the Friday and Monday routes will run Dec. 28

In Walnut Ridge, Friday’s route will run Dec. 28. Shelton Sanitation will also run this schedule.

In Hoxie and Marked Tree, the only change will be Thursday’s route running on Dec. 23.

For residents in Newport, there will be a citywide garbage pickup on Dec. 23.

In Manila, the Thursday and Friday routes will be run Dec. 28 and Monday and Tuesday routes will run Dec. 29.

Although city offices will be closed Dec. 24-25 in Trumann and Wynne, sanitation workers will be collecting trash on Dec. 24. Regular Thursday routes will run in Trumann and in Wynne, both Wednesday and Thursday routes will run on Dec. 23 and Friday’s route will run on Dec. 24.

In Osceola, the city will have a citywide collection after the holiday, on Dec. 28.

The holiday will not affect residential sanitation pickup in Harrisburg.

Additional Christmas closings include the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration and federal court in Jonesboro on Dec. 24-25, and the Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library on Dec. 24-26.

Although the U.S. Postal Service will deliver mail Dec. 24, some post offices will close early that day. Schedule changes will be posted in each location. The entire Postal Service will close Dec. 25.
