Boston Brass to perform today

The Lecture-Concert Series at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro will present the Boston Brass in a virtual concert at 7 p.m. today via YouTube Live Stream.

The real-time/live-streamed performance and educational initiative was created by Boston Brass in recognition that presenting organizations and music programs across the country are also experiencing pandemic-related difficulties.

Coffee Connections event scheduled

The third free virtual Coffee Connections, hosted by the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center at Arkansas State University, is scheduled for 10-10:30 a.m. Tuesday via Zoom.

Virtual days set at Pocahontas schools

Friday and Oct. 26 will be virtual days for Pocahontas Public Schools. These days allow teachers and students to practice virtual learning and allow the district’s technology team to identify and correct issues within the system.

If possible, students should remain home on these days. They will be counted present when they login to their classes. If a problem is encountered with the system, a note describing the problem should be sent when the students return to the classroom.

Schools will be open for students who cannot remain home but they must be dropped off, no buses will run.

School lunches will be available for pickup to students attending virtually by completing the online form at wOuaB. Parents must pick the meals up by 10 a.m. on the day they are needed.

Audubon Society hosts convention

The 2020 Arkansas Audubon Society Fall convention will meet virtually Saturday via Zoom. The convention will feature independent birding field trips and special presentations.

BRTC to offer Holocaust Survivor Series

Black River Technical College in Pocahontas, in cooperation with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, will host the annual BRTC Holocaust Survivor Series at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 26 and 6 p.m. Oct. 29. Survivors provide first-hand accounts of the atrocities they experienced during the Holocaust.

MTCC to celebrate Veterans Day

The Mosaic Templars Cultural Center in Little Rock, a museum of Arkansas Heritage, will present a virtual Veterans Day celebration at 9 a.m. Nov. 11 on Facebook Live.

The program will pay homage to all Arkansas’ veterans, including highlighting the history of Black veterans. It includes messages from the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum, Arkansas National Guard Museum, the Arkansas Air & Military Museum and the Jacksonville Museum of Military History.

UCP Christmas Party canceled

The United Cerebral Palsy 2020 Christmas Party, normally held in December, has been canceled this year because of COVID-19. The decision was made by the all-volunteer Northeast Arkansas UCP Board at its meeting Sept. 28. Plans are to resume the event in December 2021.
