Flags on display today
U.S. flags will be displayed during daylight hours today at many Jonesboro area businesses and offices, weather permitting, in recognition of Patriot Day. The display is part of an ongoing service project of the Jonesboro University Heights Lions Club.
Flags and brackets are provided for $40 a year and club members will display the flags at least 10 times a year. For additional information contact Pat Snodgrass at 761-0132.
NAACP to host virtual gala
The NAACP in Jonesboro will host a Freedom Fund Virtual Gala at 6 p.m. tonight streaming on Facebook Live. The meeting ID is 833 1731 0801 and the passcode is 649248.
Masters of ceremony will be Jervonne Newsome and Ashley Wilson. The free event will feature Image Awards and entertainment. Participants are encouraged to dress for the occasion.
Inventors Club to meet
The Inventors Club of Northeast Arkansas will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday at Fat City Grill, 3721 E. Johnson Ave. in Jonesboro, to discuss current projects.
The meeting is open to anyone interested in the club and how it can help with developing product ideas and patenting products.
VFW to commemorate anniversaries
The Roy Wiles Post 1991, Veterans of Foreign Wars of America will commemorate the 75th anniversary of World War II and the 75th anniversary of the chartering of the post at 1 p.m. Saturday. Ceremonies will be held at Post 1991, 300 N. Airport Road in Jonesboro.

Voter registration event set
The NAACP and El Centro Hispano will host a voter registration and census event, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 19 at Embassy Suites, 223 Red Wolf Blvd. in Jonesboro. Parking will be at the rear of the building. A state-issued photo ID will be needed.
Masks will be worn and social distancing will be enforced both inside and outside the building. Drive-through registration will be available.
September is Hunger Action month
The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas is joining Feeding America food banks nationwide this September to take part in Hunger Action month and asking area residents to participate in at least one activity to take action against hunger.
Ideas and activities will be posted on their website and on social media throughout the month.
Free prostate cancer screening offered
September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month in Arkansas and the Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation and St. Bernards Healthcare will host a free prostate cancer screening event from 7-10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bernards Healthcare Auditorium, 505 E. Washington Ave. in Jonesboro.
One-in-nine men in Arkansas will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lives. All men between the ages of 50 and 75 are encouraged to take advantage of this screening opportunity.
