JONESBORO — Friday is New Year’s Day and city and county offices throughout The Sun coverage area will be closed in celebration. Some will close at least part of the day Thursday.

Clay County offices, as well as city offices in both Corning and Piggott, will close both Thursday and Friday. City offices will also close both days in Hardy and in Jackson County offices will close at 2 p.m. Friday.

County offices closing on Friday only include Craighead, Cross, Greene, Lawrence, Mississippi, Poinsett, Randolph and Sharp.

City offices closing Friday only include Jonesboro, Paragould, Walnut Ridge, Hoxie, Marked Tree, Trumann, Harrisburg, Osceola, Manila, Newport, Pocahontas and Wynne.

Some of the cities will adjust their sanitation schedule because of the closing.

The city of Jonesboro will continue its extended holiday schedule. On Monday, the city will collect Thursday’s trash route and Friday’s and Monday’s recycling routes. This will end the holiday recycling schedule with regular pickup resuming Tuesday.

Friday’s trash route will be run Tuesday; Monday’s and Tuesday’s routes will run Jan 6; the Jan. 6 and part of the Jan. 7 routes will run Jan. 7; and the rest of the Jan. 7 route and part of the Jan. 8 route will run Jan. 8. The following week, the end of the Jan. 8 and beginning of Jan. 11 routes run Jan. 11 and the remainder of the Jan 11 route and the Jan. 12 route running Jan. 12. Regular pickup resumes Jan. 13.

Changes to sanitation schedules in other cities include Friday’s route being run Monday in Paragould, Walnut Ridge, Manila, and Pocahontas. Those cities with Monday routes will collect them as well.

In Wynne, the Friday sanitation route will run Thursday, and in Newport, citywide garbage pickup will be Thursday. Osceola will have citywide garbage pickup Monday.

Other Friday closings include the U.S. Postal Service and federal court, Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration and the Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library.
