JONESBORO — Thanksgiving is Thursday and cities and counties throughout The Sun coverage area will be closed in celebration. Many will also be closed Friday.

County offices in Clay, Craighead, Cross, Greene, Jackson, Lawrence, Mississippi, Poinsett, Randolph and Sharp counties will close both Thursday and Friday.

City offices closing both Thursday and Friday include Jonesboro, Hoxie, Harrisburg, Trumann, Marked Tree, Osceola, Manila, Newport, Pocahontas, Wynne, Hardy, Corning and Piggott.

At this time, the cities of Paragould and Walnut Ridge plan to close on Thursday only.

There will be a variety of changes in residential garbage routes throughout the area.

In Jonesboro, the Thursday garbage and recycling routes will be run Monday, Nov. 30; Friday’s routes will run Dec. 1; Monday’s and Tuesdays routes will run Dec. 2, Wednesday’s and part of Thursday’s routes will run Dec. 3 and the remainder of Thursday’s and Friday’s routes will run Dec. 4. If Friday’s route is not completed, it will carry over to Dec. 5.

In Paragould, the Thursday route will be run Friday and Friday’s will be run Nov. 30.

For Walnut Ridge, Trumann and Wynne, both Thursday’s and Friday’s routes will run Friday. Cities served by Shelton Sanitation will also see both Thursday’s and Friday’s Routes run Friday carrying over into Saturday if needed.

In Marked Tree and Hoxie, both Wednesday’s and Thursday’s routes will be run Wednesday.

The city of Newport will collect residential garbage city-wide on Wednesday.

Osceola will collect both the Thursday and Friday residential routes on Nov. 30 as will the city of Manila with the addition of running Monday’s and Tuesday’s routes on Dec. 1.

In Pocahontas, the city will collect Wednesday’s and Thursday’s garbage on Wednesday and Friday’s and Monday’s routes on Nov. 30.

There are no changes scheduled for sanitation routes in Harrisburg.

Cities served by Waste Connections will see Thursday’s trash collected Friday and Friday’s collected Saturday.

The Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library, Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration and federal court in Jonesboro will be closed Thursday and Friday.

The U.S. Postal Service will close Thursday only.
