JONESBORO — Air Force Junior ROTC Cadet Gunner Cline at Westside High School has been selected to receive a scholarship to participate in a private pilot license training program in the summer of 2021.

Cadet Laityn Tippy, also of Westside High School, was selected last year and because the training was canceled due to COVID-19, has been automatically reselected for this summer.

Cline and Tippy are two of only three AFJROTC cadets in the state of Arkansas selected for Flight Academy this year. They are two of 230 cadets around the world to receive these scholarships from Headquarters Air Force Junior ROTC, Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, Ala.

The scholarship covers transportation, room and board, academics and flight hours required to earn a private pilot license. Each scholarship is valued at approximately $22,500.

Westside High School AFJROTC is one of 12 AFJROTC programs in the state of Arkansas and has been recognized by the Air Force Association as the top Air Force JROTC program in the state the last two years.
