JONESBORO — The May 3 concert by the Delta Symphony Orchestra has been canceled.
Entitled “Classical Patterns and Emerging Threads,” this event was to showcase the talents of the Grand Prize winners of the recent Young Artist Competition.
Because of social distancing guidelines and travel restrictions related to COVID-19, this year’s annual contest was conducted by online video and featured 33 contestants from around the country.
The Grand Prize winners were Jiyeon Lee, 20-year-old pianist from South Korea, currently a freshman studying piano under the tutelage of Dr. Hye-Jung Hong at Missouri State University in Springfield and Iris Shepherd, 14-year-old violinist from Henry, Tenn., a student of Cornelia Heard at Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music. These musicians received cash rewards of $750 each.
Other division winners were Oscar Quiroz, 26-year-old tenor from Lake City; Adam Langs, 17-year-old xylophonist from Lake Mary, Fla.; and Connor Lane, 24-year-old flutist from Memphis. Division winners received $500 each.
