Arkansas State University-Newport will host three Commencement ceremonies in May to recognize Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 graduates.

ASUN will host the three ceremonies on Friday, May 14, 2021, at the Newport location. The Nursing and Health Professions ceremony will be at 10 a.m. Applied Science graduates will participate in a ceremony at 1 p.m., and the General Education ceremony will be at 3 p.m.

Due to COVID-19, all ceremonies will take place outdoors between the Larry N. Williams Student Community Center and Walton Hall. Graduates are allowed to bring up to three guests, and they will be seated together. Each graduate, along with their guests, will be socially distanced from other guests.

Each graduate will reserve up to three virtual tickets. While ASUN recognizes that in many cases more family and friends want to attend, this is what must be done in order to maintain proper social distancing guidelines.

For guests that aren’t included in the ticket request or are unable to attend, ASU-Newport will live stream each ceremony on its Facebook page. All graduates and guests will be required to wear a face-covering when entering and exiting the outdoor area. Once seated, individuals can remove their face coverings.

In conjunction with each commencement ceremony, ASUN is also hosting a Transfer Fair. Colleges and universities across the state are invited to take part. With COVID-19 forcing many events to a virtual forum, ASUN is excited to offer this in-person event to students and graduates.

ASUN asks graduates to declare their intent to attend commencement and request virtual tickets by May 7, 2021. Graduates can visit to register for their perspective ceremonies.

Even with all of the safety precautions in place, ASUN recognizes some graduates may not be comfortable participating in commencement. These ceremonies are not required and serve as symbolic traditions recognizing graduates’ academic accomplishments.
