Rice recipe contest for Jackson Co. students

Calling all Junior Chefs, time to show off your skills! The Jackson County Farm Bureau is hosting the Rice Is Nice Youth Cooking Contest for any Jackson County youth aged 9-18. Take a recipe using rice, then enhance the recipe or create your own. Take photos of your finished dish, recipe, and entry form; and email them in. You can enter in both the Main Dish and Party Ideas category. Prizes will be awarded in both categories. A list of rules, criteria for judging and the registration form is available by emailing Joy West at jwest@uada.edu. Completed forms and photos are due by June 11.

Free Fishing Weekend

Arkansas Free Fishing Weekend allows anyone to fish in Arkansas without a fishing license or trout stamp from noon Friday, June 11, through midnight Sunday night, June 13.

Planning Commission

The Newport Planning Commission will meet on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. in the Boardroom at the City of Newport Municipal Building.

Job Fair

The Newport Economic Development Commission (NEDC) will be hosting a Job Fair on Thursday, June 24, from Noon to 4:30 p.m. at the NEDC office located at 201 Hazel St., in Newport. There are spaces for 25 businesses to set up and take applications. Space reservations are limited to businesses hiring for positions in Jackson County. Call Christel at 870-523-1009.

Communities Unlimited, the Newport Area Chamber of Commerce and the Newport Economic Development Commission have been working with a group of local volunteers to design the ultimate guide to help start a business in Newport.
