Hiring Event

Cobblestone Hotel & Suites will be having a Hiring Event today (Thursday, November 12) from 10:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. The hiring event will be located at the Newport Economic Development Commission, 201 Hazel Street.

Quorum Court

The regular monthly meeting of the Jackson County Quorum Court is scheduled to be held today (Thursday, November 12) at 5 p.m. in the courtroom of the Jackson County Courthouse.

Planning Commission Meeting

The Newport Planning Commission will meet on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at 1:30 p.m in the Boardroom at the City of Newport Municipal Building.

Holiday Bazaar and Bake Sale

The annual Lutheran Women’s Missionary League Holiday Bazaar and Bake Sale will be held Saturday, November 14, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the St. John’s Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in Lafe. Many wood crafts, holiday crafts, and pre-wrapped cakes and cookies will be available as well as canned garden produce, jellies and sauces. State Arkansas Department of Health guidelines will be followed. Masks will be required and social distancing requirements will be maintained. The church is located at 11530 Highway 135 North in Lafe.

City Council

The next Newport City Council Meeting is scheduled to be held on Monday, December 7, 2020 at 6 p.m. at the City of Newport Municipal Building.

Art Class

The Artist in U Mommy & Me Art Class with artist Amy Morris will be Tuesday, November 24, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. While the class is free and all supplies provided, space is limited. To register call Christel at (870) 523-1009 and reserve your spot.

Christmas Parade

Entries are now being accepted for the Newport Christmas Parade to be held Thursday, December 10, 2020 beginning at 6 p.m. Enter at the Newport Area Chamber of Commerce for floats, walking groups, antique vehicles, beauty queens, horseback riders, school clubs and organizations, etc.

The Arkansas Department of Health will require physical distancing of at least six feet between family groups and face coverings are required when physical distancing cannot be easily achieved including those who plan to enter the parade as a participant.

Farmers’ Market

The downtown Newport Farmers Market is open 7 a.m.-11 a.m. every Saturday and Wednesday or until vendors sell out.
