The Joe and Helen Harris Foundation was founded in March 2016 by Dan Harris, a member of the Newport High School Class of 1966, in memory of his parents who cared deeply for the community of Newport.

The Foundation is dedicated to building resources for a positive change in the community, and it is building a center of opportunities for all the youth in the community located in the previous Arkansas National Guard Armory located next to George Kell Park.

On Saturday, April 24, the Foundation is hosting an “Operation Transformation” open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The community is invited to the open house to tour the new facility, experience activities for the kids and see the inspiration, vision and transformation of the old National Guard Armory that will serve the community.

Local law enforcement officials will be in attendance to help register children in the Your Safe Child ID Program, sponsored by the ASU-Newport Criminal Justice Program. In addition, there will be a silent auction and various food trucks available.
