Lady Bulldogs to play in state finals today

The Tuckerman Lady Bulldogs are scheduled to play in the 2A state finals in Benton today against Mansfield.

The Tuckerman Lady Bulldogs traveled to Carlisle this past weekend to compete in the 2A State Tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs played in the first round of the tournament against Riverside. The Lady Dogs had no trouble hitting the ball on Thursday in the 9-3 win. They racked up 12 hits with Kenzie Soden, Makaylie Gist, Gracie Smith, and Shanley Williams having multiple hits on the day. Kenzie Soden was the winning pitcher allowing two hits and one run over four and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking zero.

The Lady Dogs played in the quarterfinals on Friday against Horatio.

Makaylie Gist and Kenzie Soden did not allow a single hit in the 10-1 victory to advance to the State semi-final game. Makaylie Gist and Ansley Dawson each hit a homerun in the game for the Lady Bulldogs. Kenzie Soden hit two home runs on the day in the victory. The Lady Bulldogs had a huge 7 run fourth inning. Reagan Washam, Lizzy Walker, Anna Fortenberry, Ansley Dawson, Kenzie Soden, and Hannah Nicholson each had RBI’s. Makaylie Gist earned the win on the mound going five and two-thirds innings, allowing zero hits and one run while striking out six.

On Saturday, Tuckerman played in the semi-finals against Spring Hill. The Lady Dogs found themselves down 4-1 after the second inning after a solo home run from Lizzy Walker. The Lady Bulldogs then rallied in the third inning to score 5 runs with RBI’s from Audrey Altom, Lizzy Walker, Ansley Dawson, and Shanley Williams. Makaylie Gist picked up the victory on the mound allowing three hits and five runs over five innings, striking out five. Soden pitched two innings of relief, recording the last six outs to earn the save in the 7-5 victory to advance to the state finals.

The Lady Bulldogs will play in the class 2A State Finals in Benton against Mansfield today at 10:00. The Lady Bulldogs enter the finals with a 28-4 record, conference championship, district championship, and regional championship.
