JONESBORO — A 12-year-old boy faces a felony charge and two misdemeanors Tuesday after he assaulted an off-duty Jonesboro police officer who was working security at Success Academy.
Officer Christina Batchelor reported that at about 10:15 a.m. the juvenile began to punch windows, was screaming obscenities and refused to talk to Success officials or his caseworker.
Batchelor asked the boy numerous times to stand up to be placed under arrest. The boy became more aggressive and combative, she said. He kicked her several times while she was trying to subdue him, she said.
The juvenile hurled his body several times into Batchelor, causing her to hit the wall with her body.
She said she ordered the boy multiple times to quit resisting and place his hands behind his back. He continued to ignore her orders, she said.
Batchelor requested backup from dispatch.
Two officers arrived and they handcuffed the boy and placed him in the back seat of their patrol car. He was taken to the Craighead County Juvenile Detention Center.
Batchelor suffered a cut on her hand that was caused by the boy kicking her. She also had bruising to her left forearm.
The boy is being held on suspicion of second-degree battery for causing injury to a police officer, a felony, and misdemeanor resisting arrest-refusal to submit to arrest and disorderly conduct.
