JONESBORO — Police say the man who robbed Bill’s Cost Plus on Saturday is the same person who robbed the Centennial Bank at 715 Southwest Drive on June 9.
Adam Justin King, 39, of 303 Lake Drive, was arrested early Sunday morning at his residence in connection with the robbery of Bill’s on Hilltop.
Police were called to a robbery in progress by Matthew Turner, the store’s assistant manager. Officer Tanner Seal spoke with Turner and other witnesses after 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
After investigating, Jonesboro police officer Michael McCanless arrested King at 1:30 a.m. Sunday at his residence.
King was being held Tuesday at the Craighead County Detention Center.
After further investigation, King was being held on suspicion of robbing the Centennial Bank branch.
Police said King netted $2,585 in cash in the bank robbery, and he left the scene in a gray GMC Sierra.
The robber at Bill’s left with $2,200, police said.
Chief Rick Elliott said his officers collaborated their efforts in solving the two robberies.
“I commend them for all of their efforts,” Elliott said.
He said one of the witnesses at Bill’s said King had a handgun, but he doesn’t think it was pointed at anyone.
Elliott said the descriptions of King’s two vehicles – a SMC Sierra pickup truck and a white Mazda car – helped officers focus on King. He said at about midnight Saturday night officers got a search warrant and executed it at King’s residence.
“We got numerous witnesses about both vehicles,” Elliott said.
He said people get caught up with their luck and see no where to go. He said situations like this may become more common until the economy adjusts to a normalcy.
