JONESBORO — With 26, Craighead County was second only to Pulaski County in the number of new coronavirus cases discovered Monday, according to the Arkansas Department of Health.
Statewide, the health department reported 399 new cases.
The combination of confirmed cases through PCR (polymerise chain reaction) testing and antigen testing of people who may have had the virus in the past brought the total to 70,627. Positive antigen tests are listed as probable cases.
The 14-day moving average of positive testing rates showed Craighead at 11.4 percent, Mississippi at 11.2 percent , Poinsett at 9.9 percent, Lawrence at 8.2 percent, Greene at 6.4 percent and Jackson at 6%.
Arkansas State University’s Jonesboro campus reported Monday a total of 187 active cass, including 53 students living on campus, 125 students living off campus and nine employees.
The health department has identified 10 positive virus cases in one Jonesboro business – Textbook Brokers – six of which were believed to still be active cases. Another cluster of cases was identified at Big River Steel in Osceola, where 16 people have come down with COVID-19, and five of those cases were still active.
Among school districts, Brookland was said to have 10 active cases, bringing the cumulative total since June 15 to 15.
Jonesboro had nine active cases and a total of 30, including 22 students. Valley View had nine active cases and a cumulative total of 22.
Nettleton had seven active cases as of Monday and a cumulative total of 27.
The Jackson County School District (Tuckerman) had seven active cases for a cumulative total of eight. And Greene County Tech had six active cases and a cumulative total of 16.
The state only identifies districts with five or more active cases.

Poinsett – 562 confirmed, 7 probable, 45 active, 7,016 total tests, 7 deaths.
Mississippi – 1,498 confirmed, 8 probable, 91 active cases, 11,890 total tests, 37 deaths.
Jackson – 233 confirmed, 10 probable, 43 active cases, 5,791 total tests, 1 death.
