JONESBORO — Craighead County’s death toll from the coronavirus pandemic rose by five from Nov. 9 through Sunday, and by another five on Monday.

That brings the total since the pandemic reached Arkansas in March to 63 confirmed and another six that are considered probable COVID-19 deaths.

Two confirmed and two probable COVID deaths were recorded in Poinsett County on Monday, while Greene, Lawrence and Mississippi counties had one new death each on Monday.

Six deaths in Randolph County were linked to the virus in the past week, a comparison of statistics from the Arkansas Department of Health reveals. Mississippi County had three deaths and Greene Lawrence and Clay counties had two deaths each in the past week.

In its Monday update, the health department reported 1,308 new cases, including 1,165 confirmed infections; 16,485 active cases; 861 hospitalized, which is up 31 from Sunday; 123 on ventilators, which is up seven from Sunday.

The statewide death toll rose to 2,038 confirmed and 187 probable COVID-19 deaths.

Monday’s numbers were based on the results of 10,329 PCR tests and 620 of the less reliable antigen tests.

An average of 51.8 people per day tested positive for COVID-19 last week in Craighead County, for a total of 360. There were 63 new cases on Monday.

Greene County averaged 24 per day, whlie Mississippi County’s daily average was 20.4. Poinsett County had an average of 14.1 new positive tests per day.
