JONESBORO — Police said they caught two men inside a vacant residence Saturday in the 1800 block of Covey Drive after the owner reported her suspicions.

Joshua Rains, 39, and Darrell K. Simpson, were said to be homeless, according to an incident report.

Rains is on felony probation while Simpson is on parole, Detective Austin Morgan said in a probable cause affidavit. During a search, police found drug paraphernalia on both men, and a small amount of what’s believed to be methamphetamine in Rains’ possession.

On Monday, Craighead County District Judge David Boling found probable cause to charge Rains with felony possession of meth and possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor criminal mischief and criminal trespass. He set bond at $2,500. He found probable cause to charge Simpson with with a felony drug paraphernalia and the same misdemeanors as Rains. His bond was set at $7,500.

In Lake City, Gary J. McIlwain, 41, of Lake City, was arrested Saturday after a neighbor reported seeing a man hauling some things from the backyard of a vacant house in the 800 block of Faye Street.

Lake City officer Paul Haynes said in a probable cause affidavit he caught up to McIlwain in the backyard of another residence nearby.

Boling found probable cause to charge McIlwain with felony breaking or entering and misdemeanor theft and criminal trespass.

Citing the fact that McIlwain is on felony parole and has been arrested 21 times on a variety of charges since 2002, the judge set bond at $25,000.
