JONESBORO — A Northwest Arkansas woman died and four others were injured Friday night following a high-speed chase through Craighead County.
The vehicle pursuit started in Brookland, Jonesboro Police Department public information specialist Sally Smith said. JPD was an assistive agency as the chase and accident ended in the 3800 block Harrisburg Road, she said.
Devonte Stanback, 28, of Wynne, was driving the 2020 Toyota Highlander northbound on Harrisburg when he left the east side of the road and traveled up a ditch embankment, according to Arkansas State Police.
The SUV struck a Jonesboro City Water & Light utility pole and a brick fence, reports state.
“(The vehicle) went airborne colliding with an apartment complex. (It) came to final rest facing east in the yard of the apartment complex,” the ASP preliminary crash summary read.
Julianna Valle, 21, of Farmington, died in the accident. Stanback, two minors and Darian Nauden, 24, of Conway were transported to St. Bernards Medical Center for treatment, the summary indicates.
There was a light mist and roads were wet during the vehicle chase, it read.
Stanback was arrested and booked into the Craighead County Detention Center early Saturday morning, according to the online jail roster. He is being held on a $100,000 temporary bond in suspicion of possession of marijuana with the purpose to deliver and parole violation.
Harrisburg Road between Medallion Drive and Fox Meadow Lane was shut down Monday to repair power lines and poles from the wreck, JPD reported. State police is investigating the fatal crash.
Efforts to reach the Brookland Police Department for comment regarding the vehicle pursuit and cause for Stanback’s arrest were unsuccessful.
