Teen accused of child sex charge

JONESBORO – A teen was being held on a $2,500 bond Friday after deputies say he had “consensual” sex with an underaged female.

In an interview with the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office, Tristan Smith, 18, of Jonesboro, admitted to meeting the 14-year-old girl through a friend, according to the probable cause affidavit. They met in August at a residence on Arkansas 141.

“Tristan said he did not know she was 14 but thought she was 15 or 16,” it read. “Tristan said (the victim) kept contacting him over social media so he blocked her.”

Man accused of trying to stab woman

JONESBORO – A man was arrested Thursday after police say he attempted to stab a woman with a knife at the intersection of East Johnson Avenue and North Culberhouse Street.

The victim told police that she was riding in a car with Chase Brown, 32, of Jonesboro, when they began to argue, according to the probable cause affidavit. When Brown’s female family member attempted to leave the vehicle, Brown grabbed her arm.

“Brown became violent with the victim and struck her in the face with his palm. Brown then withdrew a knife and threatened to kill her and himself,” it read. “After a struggle for the knife, Brown attempted to stab the victim. The victim was able to gain control of the knife and threw it out of the window.”

Officers observed bruising on the victim’s arm and redness and swelling on her left cheek, the incident report indicates. Brown was arrested on Santa Fe Circle.

A judge found probable cause Friday to charge Brown with aggravated assault on a family or household member, possession of meth less than 2 grams, first-degree terroristic threatening and second-degree false imprisonment. His bond set at $5,000, cash or surety.
