JONESBORO — A woman accused of trafficking a minor pleaded guilty Tuesday to a lesser charge and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Olivia Deroeck, 26, of Jonesboro, has been held in the Craighead County Detention Center on a $1 million bond since March.

The document signed by Deroeck notes that she “conspired to sell her 4-year-old (female family member) to a co-defendant for sex.”

“The defendant would use the money to fuel her drug habit,” it read.

Trafficking victims are forced, defrauded or coerced to perform commercial sex or a form of labor. Prosecutors alleged that Deroeck and Tyler Sowell, 26, of Brookland, trafficked the minor between Nov. 7, 2019, and March 11, according to previous Sun reporting.

“During the investigation, it was found that Olivia Deroeck in contact with a male subject (Sowell) making sales and setting up timing with a minor,” the probable cause affidavit read.

Prosecutors filed a motion Monday to reduce the original charge, which carries 10 to 40 years or life in prison, documents show.

As part of a negotiated plea, Deroeck will serve 15 years in state prison for conspiracy to traffic a minor – a Class A felony.

“The presumptive sentence on the (Arkansas sentencing grid) is 120-140 months in the Arkansas Department of Correction,” the motion read.

Her time in the county jail – 208 days – will be credited toward her prison time. An additional suspended sentence of five years will be imposed upon her release.

Deroeck was required to register as a sex offender, not live with any children and have no contact with the victim or any minor. The registration form provides additional context for her misdeeds.

Sowell, her co-defendant, is still set to stand trial for trafficking from Oct. 19-23. He is being held in the county jail on a $1 million bond.
