Ringing the bell

Kerri Scrape, a first-time volunteer with the Salvation Army, merrily rings her bell and greets passersby on Friday afternoon in front of Sam’s Club on South Caraway Road in Jonesboro. Having been homeless herself at one time, Scrape said she knows how much the Salvation Army helps those in need with things like food, clothing and shelter. “They were amazing and they help so many people, so I just wanted to give back and help them.” The Salvation Army has Christmas kettles at 12 locations to help meet their $80,000 goal this year. Salvation Army Capt. Charles Smith said they still need more volunteers. To learning more about volunteering, visit www.registertoring.com.
