JONESBORO — While the number of active coronavirus cases and hospitalizations inched up Thursday, Gov. Asa Hutchinson said a growing number of people are taking advantage of free vaccinations in Arkansas.

“Today’s report shows a record increase in vaccine doses administered,” Hutchinson said in a news release. “With an increase of nearly 33,000 doses administered since yesterday, we continue to work toward the end of this pandemic. Check with your local vaccination locations to do your part.”

The Arkansas Department of Health reported 211 new cases, including 154 confirmed. Active cases rose by 29 to 1,724 active cases. Thursday’s numbers were based on the results of 6,687 tests.

Statewide hospitalizations due to the virus rose by two to 168, including 26 on ventilators, which is down one from Wednesday. Northeast Arkansas hospitals reported 26 COVID patients, which is up by one from Wednesday. One patient remained on a ventilator, unchanged from Wednesday.

The death toll rose by 10 statewide to 5,636. At least 330,609 Arkansans have been infected by the virus since the pandemic began in March 2020 , the health department reports.

The top counties for new cases were Washington, 26; Benton, 25; and Pulaski, 24. Craighead County had a total of eight new cases.

Poinsett – 2,714 confirmed (unchanged), 401 probable (up 1); 10 active (down 1); 61 confirmed deaths, 15 probable.

Mississippi – 5,111 confirmed (up 3), 640 probable (up 1); 21 active cases (unchanged); 90 confirmed deaths, 16 probable.

Jackson – 2,431 confirmed (unchanged), 780 probable (up 4); 11 active cases (up 4); 23 confirmed deaths, 15 probable.

Randolph – 1,573 confirmed, 488 probable (both unchanged); 13 active cases (unchanged); 35 confirmed deaths, 12 probable.

Cross – 1,499 confirmed (unchanged), 422 probable (up 2); 6 active cases (up 2); 46 confirmed deaths, 3 probable.

Clay – 1,329 confirmed, 394 probable (both unchanged); 5 active cases (down 1); 36 confirmed deaths, 14 probable.
