JOPLIN, Mo. — Mrs. Josephine “Jo” Caldwell, 75, of Joplin, Mo., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021, at home after a courageous battle with ALS.

She was born on June 24, 1944, in Norwalk, Calif.

Jo is survived by her loving husband of over 57 years, Thomas Caldwell. They married on March 16, 1963, at Hamilton Air Force Base in Marin, Calif.

She is also survived by one son, Ed Caldwell of Sherwood; one daughter, Donna Caldwell-Chaffin of Joplin and her partner, Scott Vest of Wyandotte, Okla.; one sister, Jessie Riveria of Mountain Home; and two granddaughters, Claire Caldwell of Sherwood and Lauren Chaffin of Joplin.

She was preceded in death by her father, Val Jimenez, father-in-law, Cecil Caldwell, and mother-in-law, Opal Caldwell.

Jo had a career in nursing, specializing in obstetrics for many years, then dialysis for over 13 years.

After retirement, her love for animals led her to volunteer at the Humane Society in Mountain Home. She even had furry kids of her own that she loved and spoiled.

She loved being with her family and was even able to be present for the birth of her two granddaughters.

She also loved traveling with her family. Jo was crafty and loved to paint as well.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. today in Caldwell Chapel Cemetery in Jonesboro with Bill Self officiating. Visitation was Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her honor to the ALS Association of Mid-America Chapter.
