SOUTHSIDE — Brookland routed Southside twice in a 4A-3 baseball doubleheader Tuesday, winning the first game 17-1 and the second 11-1.
The Bearcats (20-3, 11-1 conference) scored multiple runs in all five innings of the first game to back Jack Henry Pettit’s three-hit pitching. Pettit struck out eight batters while pitching a complete game.
Weston Speir was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Bearcats. Cade Collins and Zane Horad both finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Pettit was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Dax Webb and Tyler Privett drove in three runs each. Walker Harrell also had an RBI.
Brookland scored seven runs in the fourth inning of the second game to snap a 1-1 tie. Cole Doke pitched all six innings for the victory, striking out nine while giving up four hits and two walks.
Eli Richmond was 4-for-4 with a double and two RBI to lead the Bearcats. Tyler Privett was 2-for-4 with four RBI and Dax Webb was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in.
Pettit hit a solo home run and drove in two runs; Collins was 2-for-4; and Speir and Horad drove in one run each.
Paragould 11-16, Nettleton 5-4JONESBORO — JD Wilson homered twice and drove in seven runs during Tuesday’s 5A-East doubleheader to propel Paragould to a sweep of Nettleton.
Wilson was 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored as the Rams took the first game 11-5. Cole Edwards and Jamison Davault drove in one run each, while Simon McBride doubled and scored twice.
Jacob Tarpley belted his first high school home run while finishing 3-for-4 with three RBI for the Raiders in the first game. Kyle Tolley was 2-for-5 with two doubles; Nathan Belk was 2-for-4; Kenwarren McShan was 2-for-3; and Seth Bishop doubled and drove in a run.
Wilson was 2-for-3 with a home run, three runs scored and four RBI in the second game, a 16-4 Paragould victory.
Weston Shirley was 3-for-4 with an RBI and scored twice for the Rams. Nate Brittingham was 2-for-3 with two RBI; and Edwards, Corbin Bailey, Dalton Ricker and Davault drove in one run each.
Tolley was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI in the second game; Landon Webb tripled and drove in a run; and Ransom Rand also tripled for the Raiders.
Ricker pitched all five innings, limiting Nettleton to five hits and only one earned run.
Marked Tree 12-21, Armorel 1-1MARKED TREE —Marked Tree routed Armorel twice in 1A-3 baseball Tuesday.
The Indians took the first game 12-1. Brylan Honeycutt pitched all five innings, giving up one run off three hits while striking out six.
Cainan Hawkins was 2-for-2 and scored twice for Marked Tree. Zander Criswell was 2-for-4 with an RBI; Brylan Honeycutt was 2-for-4 and scored twice; Bryce Dunn was 2-for-3 with an RBI; Brennon Honeycutt had a hit and scored three runs; Corey Jacobs had a hit and two RBI; and Logan Smith added an RBI double.
Marked Tree (17-3, 10-0 conference) rolled to a 21-1 victory in the second game. Brennon Honeycutt pitched three innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out five.
Criswell and Brylan Honeycutt both finished 3-for-3 and scored four runs each. Dunn was 3-for-3 and drove in three runs.
Aidan McGuire hit a two-run single; Brennon Honeycutt had a hit and scored three runs; and Cayden Kimery had a hit and an RBI for the Indians.
