WEST MEMPHIS — Jonesboro moved into sole possession of second place in the 5A-East conference Tuesday with a 48-31 victory over West Memphis in senior girls’ basketball.
Lakiya Scott scored 14 points and Ereauna Hardaway added 13 as the Lady Hurricane (16-5, 8-3 conference) completed a regular-season sweep of the Lady Devils (6-12, 1-10 conference).
Jonesboro opened the game on a 9-1 run and led 15-13 after the first quarter. West Memphis surged in front 19-17 in the second quarter before Jonesboro took a 22-21 lead at intermission on Diamond Reynolds’ last-second 3-pointer.
The Lady Hurricane extended their lead to 36-26 at the end of the third quarter.
Nettleton 52, Paragould 36
PARAGOULD — Nettleton built a 14-point halftime lead Tuesday and went on to defeat Paragould 52-36 in 5A-East senior girls’ basketball.
The Lady Raiders (16-6, 7-4 conference) led 15-6 after the first quarter and 25-11 at halftime. Paragould (15-6, 7-4) closed within 35-25 at the end of the third quarter.
Wakiryah Daniels scored 21 points, including 13 in the first quarter, to help Nettleton complete a regular-season sweep of Paragould. Briley Pena added 18 points, five rebounds and four assists, while Laila Eliotti had six points and six rebounds in the Lady Raiders’ fifth consecutive victory.
Carson Defries scored 16 points to lead Paragould.
Melbourne 45, Marmaduke 43
MARMADUKE — Jenna Lawrence made two free throws with no time remaining in Tuesday’s game to lift Melbourne to a 45-43 victory over Marmaduke in a meeting of two of the state’s highest-ranked Class 2A girls’ teams.
Kenley McCarn scored 16 points and Lawrence added 11 as Melbourne (22-1) earned its 21st consecutive victory. The Lady Bearkatz are ranked third overall and first in Class 2A in this week’s Arkansas Sports Media poll.
Carolina Hoffman and Heidi Robinson scored 16 points each for Marmaduke (24-5), which had a 10-game winning streak snapped. Baylie Joiner added 11 points and Zoe Massey grabbed 10 rebounds for the Lady Greyhounds, who are ranked third in Class 2A.
Robinson sank a half-court shot to give Marmaduke a 9-8 lead after the first quarter and the game remained close throughout. Melbourne led 43-33 before Marmaduke went on a 10-0 run to tie the score.
Viola 60, Tuckerman 54
TUCKERMAN — Viola outlasted Tuckerman 60-54 in double overtime in senior girls’ basketball Tuesday.
A.J. McCandlis scored 23 points to lead the Lady Longhorns (23-6). Lindsey Browning added 20 points and Sami McCandlis 14 for Viola.
Kenzie Soden scored 24 points and Raigan Head 12 for Tuckerman (23-5).
Viola opened a 20-10 lead in the first quarter and held a 31-27 advantage at halftime. Tuckerman came back to lead 43-38 after the third quarter. The teams were tied at 49 to end regulation and at 50 to end the first overtime.
Walnut Ridge 50, Corning 49
CORNING — Bailey Augustine scored 30 points Tuesday to lead Walnut Ridge to a 50-49 victory over Corning in 3A-3 girls’ basketball.
Chloe Davis added 13 points for Walnut Ridge (15-8, 13-2 conference), which trailed after each of the first three quarters. Corning led 19-16 at halftime and 29-23 after the third quarter.
Whitley Bolen scored 15 points and Makenna Lunsford 12 for Corning.
