BROOKLAND — A 3-point barrage helped Brookland add the 4A-3 girls' district tournament title to its regular-season championship Friday night.
The Lady Bearcats sank 10 3-pointers on the way to a 58-41 victory over Valley View in the championship game.
Gracie Gramling connected for five 3s in leading top-seeded Brookland (17-5) with 22 points. Faith Champlin sank three 3s while scoring 13 points. Hannah Boling and A.J. Allen also finished in double figures by scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively, with Allen hitting two 3s.
Second-seeded Valley View (17-6) led 8-6 after the first quarter, but the Lady Bearcats outscored the Lady Blazers 22-8 in the second quarter to take a 28-16 halftime lead. Three of Gramling's 3s came during Brookland's second-quarter surge.
Gramling, Champlin and Allen all hit 3s in the third quarter, which ended with Brookland leading 42-31. Morghan Weaver scored eight of her 13 points in the third quarter for Valley View.
Hunter Gibson and Emma Higgins added 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the Lady Blazers, each connecting twice from the 3-point line.
Marion 52, Nettleton 40
JONESBORO — A strong second quarter propelled fifth-seeded Marion to a 52-40 victory over fourth-seeded Nettleton in the 5A-East conference girls’ tournament Thursday.
Marion (10-13) outscored Nettleton 19-8 in the second quarter to take a 31-20 halftime lead. The Lady Patriots maintained their 11-point margin, 38-27, at the end of the third quarter.
Briley Pena scored 17 points and McKenzie Williams added 13 for Nettleton (16-7). Daedrianna Cail scored 19 points and Ny’Asia Jackson with 12 for Marion, which will visit Batesville in the semifinals Monday.
HOXIE — Hoxie and Walnut Ridge will meet for the 3A-3 girls' district tournament title tonight after earning semifinal victories Friday.
Top-seeded Hoxie defeated Osceola 55-34, while second-seeded Walnut Ridge held off Manila 53-45.
MARMADUKE — Top-seeded Marmaduke and third-seeded Riverside earned semifinal victories Friday night in the 2A-3 girls' district tournament.
Marmaduke routed Earle 61-36 and Riverside earned a 34-32 victory at second-seeded Rector. The teams meet tonight at 7 at Marmaduke.
Heidi Robinson finished with 24 points, eight assists and six rebounds to lead Marmaduke (27-5). Baylie Joiner added 10 points and 10 rebounds; Bean Hoffman finished with eight points and seven rebounds; and Zoe Massey, Chancey Henry and Maranda Bear combined for 18 points.
Marmaduke led 30-18 at halftime and 52-29 after the third quarter.
Kalli Blocker, Mackenzie Thomas and Hannah Gosa combined for seven points to lead Riverside (17-10) past Rector. Ellie Ford scored 12 points for Rector (16-10).
