BATESVILLE — Paragould handed Batesville its first loss of the season Friday night in senior girls’ basketball, winning 38-34.
Carson Defries sank three 3-pointers to score a game-high 16 points for the Lady Rams (13-5, 6-3 5A-East). Five other players scored for Paragould, with Blythe Benefield and Shakira Brown adding six points each.
Brown was 2-of-4 from the 3-point line and also grabbed eight rebounds. Benefield also had two steals and two blocked shots.
Izzy Higginbottom scored 12 points to lead Batesville (18-1, 9-1 conference), which is ranked third overall and No. 1 in Class 5A in the Arkansas Sports Media poll. The Lady Pioneers finished 1-of-17 from the 3-point line.
Jonesboro 63, GCT 54
JONESBORO — A quick start set the tone for Jonesboro as the Lady Hurricane defeated Greene County Tech 63-54 in 5A-East senior girls’ basketball Friday.
Jonesboro (15-5, 7-3 conference) opened a 16-5 lead in the first quarter. The Lady Hurricane led 33-25 at halftime and increased its lead to 50-39 at the end of the third quarter.
Ereauna Hardaway hit three 3-pointers in leading Jonesboro with 21 points. Bramyia Johnson scored 19 points, including 15 in the second half, while Destiny Thomas scored 12 of her 14 in the first half for the Lady Hurricane.
Kylie Stokes scored 16 points for GCT (11-7, 4-5 conference), followed by Sierrah Floyd with nine and Brooke Barnes with eight.
Brookland 42, Trumann 33
TRUMANN — Brookland ran its winning streak to 10 games Thursday with a 42-33 victory over Trumann in 4A-3 senior girls’ basketball.
The Lady Bearcats (15-4, 13-0 conference) led 15-12 at halftime after outscoring the Lady Wildcats 8-2 in the second quarter. Brookland opened a 35-23 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Gracie Gramling scored nine points and A.J. Allen added eight for Brookland. Haley Mathis scored 11 points for Trumann.
Brookland cruised to a 48-17 victory in the junior girls’ game, led by Kinsey Clark with 11 points and Addy Vowell with 10.
Valley View 47, Highland 38
JONESBORO — Valley View defeated Highland 47-38 Thursday in 4A-3 senior girls’ basketball.
Emma Higgins scored 14 points and Morghan Weaver added 13 for the Lady Blazers (15-5, 10-3 conference). The teams were tied at 26 at halftime and Valley View led 37-31 after the third quarter.
Emma Hyslip scored 25 points for Highland.
Corning 67, Harrisburg 20
CORNING — Corning outscored Harrisburg 24-0 in the first quarter Thursday on its way to a 67-20 victory in 3A-3 senior girls’ basketball.
Whitley Bolen scored 26 points and Katie Cole added 17 for the Lady Bobcats (9-13, 7-7 conference). Corning led 41-13 at halftime.
Corning kept its conference record perfect in junior girls’ basketball with a 46-25 victory. Presley Martin scored 15 points and Kenlie Watson added 12 for Corning (19-2, 15-0 conference).
Mammoth Spring 60, Hillcrest 41
MAMMOTH SPRING — Megyn Upton scored 26 points Thursday to lead Mammoth Spring to a 60-41 victory over Hillcrest in senior girls’ basketball.
Chevelle Graves added 16 points for the Lady Bears (11-10, 6-0 conference), the 1A-3 champions.
4A-3 Jr. District
Brookland and Valley View earned home victories Saturday in the first round of the 4A-3 junior girls’ district tournament.
Brookland ran its record to 22-0 with a 55-22 rout of Trumann. Chaney Gallion and Savannah Pope scored 12 points each for Brookland, with Addy Vowell adding 10.
Valley View eliminated Blytheville with a 32-22 victory. Carley Rich scored 20 points for Valley View, while Mackenzie Thomas had 12 points for Blytheville.
1A-3 Jr. District
STRAWBERRY — Hillcrest defeated Crowley’s Ridge Academy 46-17 Saturday in the 1A-3 junior girls’ district tournament.
Kayleigh Kirk finished with 14 points to lead Hillcrest. Sofie Snow scored five points to lead CRA.
