GREENWOOD — Jonesboro is headed back to the state volleyball finals.

The Lady Hurricane earned a place in the Class 5A state championship match at Hot Springs by defeating Benton 25-23, 21-25, 25-16, 25-18 in the semifinals Thursday. Jonesboro (19-1) will play for its third consecutive state championship when it battles Greenwood on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

Rosalind Lutes finished with 21 kills and 10 digs while serving 11-of-11 for the Lady Hurricane. Mollie McCoy added 10 kills and two blocks; Saraya Hewitt contributed nine kills and two aces on 17-of-18 serving; and Taylor Abernathy was 16-of-18 serving with eight kills and two blocks.

Abby Johnson was 23-of-24 serving with 48 assists and 14 digs. Maggie Orr added 24 digs and 10-of-11 serving; Anna Parker had eight digs; and Shelbye Varner was 11-of-13 serving.

Class 3A

LITTLE ROCK — Hoxie and Piggott suffered semifinal losses Thursday in the Class 3A state volleyball tournament.

Paris handed Hoxie its first loss of the season, winning 25-17, 25-18, 25-23. Hackett held off Piggott 25-15, 25-16, 23-25, 23-25, 15-5.

Piggott reached the semifinals with a five-set victory Wednesday night against Harding Academy, advancing with a 23-25, 25-19, 25-19, 22-25, 16-14 victory.
