HOT SPRINGS — Jonesboro High School continued its domination of state tennis Tuesday afternoon, winning the boys team championship and the girls team championship in the Class 5A tournament at Lakeside High School.
Jonesboro has swept state team championships in its classification for four consecutive seasons, a run that began in Class 6A in 2017 and has continued the last three seasons in Class 5A.
Jonesboro’s Jenna Payne won her third consecutive state championship in girls’ singles. The Lady Hurricane also claimed the doubles title as Peyton Mullins and Lauren Guadamuz prevailed in the championship match.
Jonesboro’s Joseph Patton won the boys’ singles championship. The boys’ doubles final was an all-Jonesboro event as Ethan Richardson and Carson Fowler defeated Ryan Rouse and Win Paul Gibson in the finals.
NORTH LITTLE ROCK — Piggott’s Shawn-Hudson Seegraves and Brandon Palmer finished third in boys’ doubles Tuesday at the Class 3A state tennis tournament.
Seegraves and Palmer lost 7-5, 6-4 to Harding Academy’s Ryan McGaha and Andrew Ross in the semifinals. The Piggott duo bounced back to defeat a team from Atkins 8-3 in the third-place match.
Piggott finished fourth in the boys’ team standings with three points. Episcopal Collegiate won the boys’ team title, while Cave City took the girls’ team championship.
JONESBORO — Ridgefield Christian’s Jenna Berry finished second in girls’ singles Tuesday in the Class 2A state tennis tournament at Allen Park.
Berry defeated Conway Christian’s Caroline Huff 6-3, 6-0 in the semifinals. Haas Hall Bentonville’s Lexa Farmer defeated Berry 6-4, 6-7, 7-5 in the championship match.
