JONESBORO — Valley View’s Hunter Jowers fired a 4-under-par 67 Saturday to claim the individual championship in the boys’ division of the annual Hurricane Classic high school golf tournament at Jonesboro Country Club.
Jowers, whose round included six birdies, held off two other opponents who finished under par. Paragould’s Simon McBride was second with a 2-under-par 69, while Cabot’s Easton Denney carded a 1-under-par 70.
Cabot claimed the boys’ team title with a combined 310 score, followed by Valley View (314), Jonesboro (319), Mountain Home (339), Nettleton (341) and Marion (366).
Valley View’s Peyton Ellis was sixth individually at 75. Jowers, Luke Morgan (84) and J.P. Matthews (88) also contributed to Valley View’s runner-up team total.
Jonesboro’s Ro Gibson finished fifth individually at 74. Carrington Reid tied for seventh (79), while Jackson Adams (81) and Braden McKinney (85) rounded out the Hurricane’s team total.
Nettleton’s Jake Daughdrill and Nathan Belk also tied for seventh, both shooting 79. Parker Clements (82) and Kaleb McClain (101) rounded out the Raiders’ team total.
Cabot won the girls’ team title with a 257, followed by Mountain Home (269), Jonesboro (283), Marion (299) and Valley View (301).
Cabot’s Emmerson Doyle finished at 78 to win the girls’ individual crown.
Jonesboro had two top-10 finishes as Caroline Hughes (81) was third and Bella Kattaviravong (97) was ninth. Jonesboro’s team total also included 105 from Mya Fulkerson.
Valley View’s Emily Minton (88) tied for fourth individually. The Lady Blazers’ team total also included scores from Hannah Hyneman (105) and Caroline Prestidge (108).
