Lady Blazers win 4A state title

Valley View won the Class 4A girls’ state cross country championship Friday in Hot Springs.

HOT SPRINGS — Valley View won the Class 4A girls’ state cross country championship Friday.

The Lady Blazers finished with a team score of 28, well ahead of the 75 posted by runner-up Pea Ridge. Five Valley View runners finished in the top 12.

Valley View’s Elise Knight and Reese McMillan finished second and third, respectively, with times of 20:24.67 and 20:27.57. Kendal Minton placed fifth in 20:49.76; Sophey Pope was eighth in 21:04.74; and Madden Rogers was 12th in 21:47.18.

Brookland’s Rylee Walker finished 13th with a time of 21:53.18.

In Class 5A girls, Jonesboro’s Mary Beth Bailey finished seventh with a time of 20:10.40. Henley Rogers placed 18th in 21:34.08 as the Lady Hurricane finished seventh out of 23 teams.

In the Class 3A girls’ race Thursday, Manila’s Sadie McDonald was seventh with a time of 21:39.42. Sloan-Hendrix’s Autumn Smith was 14th in the Class 2A race (24:00.00) and Maynard’s Madeline Jones was 14th in the 1A race (23:27.99).

The Jonesboro boys finished seventh in the Class 5A team standings Friday, led by Keagan Pointer’s 27th-place finish in 17:41.72. Highland’s Preston Wright finished fourth in the Class 4A race (17:33.44) and Valley View’s Brit Hawkins was 11th (17:50.50).

Manila’s Connor Jackson finished second to Cave City’s Luke Walling in the Class 3A boys’ race Thursday. Walling turned in a winning time of 15:53.61, while Jackson finished in 16:33.15.

Sloan-Hendrix’s Davis Smith and Joel Hoffman finished 16th (19:45.92) and 18th (19:51.15), respectively, in 2A.
