JONESBORO — Twenty-one area high school football teams will move on to the state playoffs following Saturday’s announcement of the brackets by the Arkansas Activities Association.
In Class 6A, Jonesboro (6-3) will host Van Buren in a first-round game next Friday.
Five area teams are part of the field in Class 5A, including four that will participate in play-in games next Friday. Valley View (5-4) will play at home against Farmington, while Greene County Tech (6-4) will host Clarksville.
Nettleton (3-4) and Brookland (3-6) will travel for play-in games. The Raiders will go to Maumelle on Friday, while the Bearcats will travel to Greenbrier.
The Nettleton-Maumelle winner advances to play Wynne (9-0) in the first round Nov. 20.
In Class 4A, Westside (3-6) opted to participate in the playoffs, changing course after announcing earlier in the week that it would not play in the postseason. The Warriors are scheduled to visit Hamburg in a play-in game Friday.
Trumann (5-5) will host Heber Springs in another play-in game Friday and Blytheville (4-4) will host Clinton.
Rivercrest (9-0), Pocahontas (8-2) and Gosnell (3-3) will wait until Nov. 20 to play in the first round. The Colts will host the Fountain Lake-Pottsville winner; the Redskins will host Lamar; and the Pirates will travel to Dardanelle.
Two area teams are set for play-in games in Class 3A. Walnut Ridge (2-7) will travel to Lake Village on Friday, while Corning (5-4) will host Baptist Prep.
In first-round Class 3A games set for Nov. 20, Hoxie (9-0) will host the Walnut Ridge-Lake Village winner; Newport (8-1) will host the Baptist Prep-Corning winner; Piggott (7-3) will host Camden Harmony Grove; Osceola (4-4) will travel to Dollarway; and Harrisburg (5-3) will visit Jessieville.
East Poinsett County (7-3) will play at home on Friday against Johnson County Westside in the 2A playoffs and Cross County (6-3) will host Hampton, a rematch of a regular-season game the Thunderbirds won 28-26. Marked Tree (2-4) will travel to Junction City.
