POCAHONTAS — Pocahontas senior basketball standout Kendra Johnson signed a letter of intent to play next season for State Fair (Mo.) Community College.
Johnson, a 5-foot-8 guard/forward who was a two-time all-conference selection, averaged double-digit points in each season of her career with the Lady Redskins. She helped Pocahontas produce a 53-32 record over three seasons, including a 27-15 mark in 4A-3 conference play.
This season, Johnson averaged 12.1 points, 5 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 1.5 assists while shooting 37 percent from the 3-point line and 77 percent from the free throw line. She helped Pocahontas finish 14-9 overall and reach the Class 4A East Region tournament.
Johnson averaged 13.8 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 1.5 assists as a junior, helping lead the Lady Redskins to a 20-11 record and the quarterfinals of the Class 4A state tournament. She scored 31 points against Batesville in the district tournament semifinals and pumped in 25 during a victory over Brookland.
Pocahontas reached the East Region tournament in Johnson’s sophomore season as well as she averaged 10.6 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals and 1.2 assists per game.
Johnson was an all-star nominee out of the 4A-3 this year.
State Fair, which competes in NJCAA Region 16, is located in Sedalia, Mo. Nicole Collier, an assistant coach at Southern Illinois for five seasons, was named as the Lady Roadrunners’ new head coach earlier this month.
