Ellis shoots 36 to lead Blazers

JONESBORO — Peyton Ellis shot 36 for medalist honors Tuesday in leading Valley View past Brookland in boys’ high school golf at Sage Meadows Country Club.

Hunter Jowers finished at 37 and Luke Morgan at 39, giving Valley View (22-2) a 112 team score.

Harrison McMechen (39), Sawyor Hamilton (40) and Ryan Oxford (41) combined for Brookland’s 120.

Brookland defeated Valley View and Wynne in the girls’ match. Medalist Emma Butler (39), Breah Bowman (44) and Vivian McMechen (45) combined for Brookland’s 128 team total.

Caroline Prestidge (42), Emily Minton (44) and Hannah Hyneman (46) produced Valley View’s 132 team score. Wynne had a 161 team total, led by Emma Miller’s 48.

Adams, Gibson pace Hurricane

JONESBORO — Jonesboro won the team competition while Paragould’s Simon McBride earned medalist honors Tuesday in boys’ high school golf at Jonesboro Country Club.

Jonesboro finished with a 321 team score in the play-five, count-four format. Jackson Adams and Ro Gibson both shot 77 for the Hurricane (19-6), followed by Carrington Reid at 80 and Rhett Hosman at 87.

McBride fired a 71 for medalist honors. GCT finished at 354 as a team, led by Fletcher Latting’s 84.

Jonesboro’s Caroline Hughes was medalist of the girls’ match with an 84. The Lady Hurricane’s Mya Fulkerson was second and teammate Bella Kattaviravong third at 101.

SBC honors A-State’s MacIntosh

JONESBORO — Arkansas State’s Victoria MacIntosh was named Sun Belt Conference offensive player of the week in women’s soccer Wednesday.

MacIntosh broke a scoreless tie against Central Arkansas on Sunday when she scored on a penalty kick in the 71st minute. ASU went on to win 2-0.

The Red Wolves (1-0) host Louisiana-Monroe at noon Sunday.
