Washington leads JHS past Blytheville

BLYTHEVILLE — Jonesboro defeated Blytheville 60-44 Monday night, extending its winning streak to 13 games in senior boys’ basketball.

Jesse Washington scored 23 points to lead Jonesboro (17-3) as the Hurricane tuned up for the 5A-East conference tournament. The Hurricane will host Paragould in the first round Friday.

Kavon Pointer added 13 points, Keyln McBride 12 and Isaac Harrell eight for Jonesboro, which outscored Blytheville 20-9 in the fourth quarter to seal the victory. The Hurricane led 13-8 after the first quarter, 29-24 at halftime and 40-35 after the third quarter.

Lamont Jackson scored 20 points to lead 4A-3 regular-season champion Blytheville (22-3). The Chickasaws have a bye into the 4A-3 tournament semifinals as the top seed.

Lady Warriors roll in tourney opener

JONESBORO — Fifth-seeded Westside cruised past Blytheville 69-46 Monday in the first round of the 4A-3 girls’ district basketball tournament.

Ten players scored for the Lady Warriors, led by Bailey Willis with 19 points. Westside led 26-4 after the first quarter, 47-21 at halftime and 56-32 after the third quarter.

Westside visits Pocahontas this evening in the quarterfinals.

Slusser sinks 10 3s as Bobcats roll

WALNUT RIDGE — Kel Slusser drilled 10 3-pointers Monday to score 34 points as Walnut Ridge cruised past Harrisburg 82-60 in 3A-3 senior boys’ basketball.

Jayden Hollister added 20 points and Ty Flippo finished with 12 for Walnut Ridge. Samuel Moore scored 21 points and Michael Deckelman added 14 for Harrisburg.
