CONWAY — Central Arkansas rallied to beat Arkansas State 5-3 in college baseball Tuesday evening.
The Red Wolves (10-20) held a 3-1 lead in the first game of an eight-game road swing, but the Bears (11-20) came back with one run in the sixth and three in the seventh.
UCA capitalized on two hits and two errors to take the lead for good in the seventh. The Bears scored the tying run on a ground out and RJ Pearson’s two-run single gave them the lead.
Andrew Shoultz (1-0) earned the win by pitching two innings in relief. UCA’s Tyler Cleveland pitched the final two innings for the save, striking out four of the final five batters to end the game.
Josh Albat, the third of five ASU pitchers, suffered the loss. Albat (0-1) yielded three runs (two earned) while giving up two hits, a walk and a hit batsman in one-third of an inning. ASU starter Brandon Anderson pitched three innings, giving up four hits and one run while walking three and striking out two.
Liam Hicks was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Tyler Duncan was 2-for-5 with an RBI for ASU. Ben Klutts was 2-for-4.
The Red Wolves return to Sun Belt Conference play Friday as they open a series at Texas State.
