Valley View ends JHS winning streak

JONESBORO — Valley View defeated Jonesboro 25-11, 27-25, 26-24 in high school volleyball Saturday at Blazer Arena, snapping the Lady Hurricane’s 55-match winning streak.

The Lady Blazers (16-0) own a 25-match winning streak dating to last season. Ashley Lamkin finished with 12 kills and two blocks for Valley View, which overcame a 23-21 deficit in the third set to finish the match.

Natalie Supine added seven kills for the Lady Blazers, while Tolly Fagan and Michayla Mears had five each. Fagan was also 10-of-10 serving with 14 digs while Mears was 11-of-11 with 13 assists and 14 digs.

Alex Brown and Olivia Miles added 15 and 11 digs, respectively, while Avery Hall was 11-of-11 serving for Valley View.

Mollie McCoy led Jonesboro (12-1) with 12 kills. Rosalind Lutes added five kills; Taylor Abernathy finished with four blocks; Abby Johnson recorded 21 assists; Maggie Orr had 18 digs; and Saraya Hewitt served five aces.

Jonesboro won the junior varsity match 25-22, 25-22.

Valley View 3, Wynne 0

WYNNE – Valley View rolled past Wynne 25-14, 25-11, 25-13 in 4A-Northeast volleyball Thursday.

Natalie Supine recorded eight kills and four blocks for the Lady Blazers (13-0 conference). Ashley Lamkin finished with six kills and three blocks.

Also for Valley View, Tolly Fagan had three blocks; Alex Brown added 11 digs; Michayla Mears was 11-of-11 serving with 11 assists and nine digs; and Hadden Lieblong was 13-of-13 serving.

Wynne won the junior high match 15-25, 25-23, 15-12. Hayden Gartman had eight kills and nine digs for Valley View; Jillian Frye added six kills; Riley Owens finished with four kills; Brennan Holland contributed 12 assists; and Anna Lamkin was 10-of-10 serving with three aces,

Valley View won the junior B game 25-10 and the seventh-grade match 25-5, 25-11.

Jonesboro 3, Batesville 0

BATESVILLE – Rosalind Lutes finished with nine kills Thursday to lead Jonesboro to a 25-18, 25-15, 25-15 sweep of Batesville in 5A-East volleyball.

Mollie McCoy and Teagan Cox added seven kills and three blocks each, with McCoy also serving 13-of-13 for the Lady Hurricane (10-0 5A-East). Saraya Hewitt and Elise Harris added six kills each.

Abby Johnson was 11-of-11 serving with four aces and 31 assists; Maggie Orr was 16-of-16 with nine digs; and Shelbye Varner served four aces.

Jonesboro won the JV game 25-16.

Westside 3, Trumann 0

TRUMANN – Westside swept Trumann 25-11, 25-13, 25-17 in 4A-Northeast volleyball Thursday.

Hannah Pickering led Westside (10-3, 8-3 conference) with 10 kills and 10 digs. Abby Manley added seven kills, while Laynee Montgomery finished with six kills, 11 assists and 12 digs. Sydney Pickering had 13 digs, while Colleen Jackson contributed five kills, 16 assists and nine digs.

Isabella Davis had four kills and seven digs for Trumann. Anna Lebo and Hannah McLaughlin finished with nine and seven digs, respectively.

Westside won the junior high match 25-19, 25-17.

Piggott 3, Pal.-Wheatley 0

PIGGOTT – Claire Bellers finished with 16 kills, 11 digs and four aces Thursday to lead Piggott to a 25-12, 25-12, 25-13 sweep of Palestine-Wheatley in 3A-Northeast volleyball.

Alyssa Manor finished with eight kills, while Annalee Massey added six kills and Maddie Reeves chipped in with five kills and four aces. Emma Langley finished with 22 assists and Macey Williams had 14 digs.

Piggott won the junior high match in three sets.

Brookland 2, Annie Camp 0

BROOKLAND – Brookland defeated Annie Camp 25-4, 25-20 in junior high volleyball Thursday.

Savannah Pope finished with eight kills for Brookland. Maddie Smith served four aces and Libbey Hammons was 13-of-13.

Brookland won the junior B match and Annie Camp took the seventh-grade match.
