JONESBORO — Wynne’s quick start put Valley View in a hole that the Blazers couldn’t escape Friday night.
The Yellowjackets scored two touchdowns in the first six minutes and went on to earn a 28-14 victory at Central Dealerships Stadium, snapping the Blazers’ 12-game winning streak in 5A-East conference play.
Wynne, which is ranked 10th overall and second in Class 5A, started its first drive with good field position after forcing Valley View to punt. Marterius Ross scored on a 2-yard run with 9:02 left in the first quarter.
D’Marrious Maxwell’s interception set up the Yellowjackets (6-0, 3-0 conference) on Valley View’s end of the field again. Kamryn Speed scored on a 7-yard run with 6:02 remaining in the quarter for a 14-0 lead.
Neither team scored again until Wynne’s Carl Washington broke a 36-yard touchdown run with 10:01 left in the third quarter. Jaden Hamilton Wells’ fumble recovery set up a scoring chance for Valley View (4-2, 2-1) and Aedan Huntsman scored on a 20-yard run with 4:14 remaining in the third quarter.
Wynne drove 50 yards in 13 plays for its next touchdown with 8:21 left in the game. Huntsman scored the Blazers’ final touchdown on a 1-yard run with 50 seconds to play.
Valley View visits Brookland next Friday.
