The annual Clover Bend School Reunion has been canceled again for 2021.

“It is with deep sadness that we are once again, postponing the Clover Bend Historic School District’s May reunion,” a letter from the Clover Bend School Board said. “The health and safety of our guests and board members are our number one concern and we feel this is the best decision this year.”

Plans are being made to resume the Memorial Day reunion in 2022.

This event and the upkeep of the Historic Site are funded solely through donations.

Board members noted that 2020 brought about hard times, as did the snow storm of 2021.

“Everything from decreased facility rentals to busted water pipes have depleted the donation budget, making it difficult to keep up with everyday maintenance of the facility and plan special events like the Memorial Day Reunion,” the letter states. “It is evident how close the community of Lawrence County is with the success stories of this site. We are asking that you come together, once more, to help keep the history and integrity of these buildings intact.”

The Clover Bend Historic District is the site of a successful attempt to combat the socioeconomic problems of the Great Depression era during the first and second administrations of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Since the reunion will not be able to be held, a mail-a-thon is being held to support the historic site. Donations can be made out and mailed to: Clover Bend Historical Association, P.O. Box 672, Walnut Ridge, AR 72476

The Clover Bend Historic District is comprised of a main building, a gymnasium, a cafeteria, a cottage devoted to vocational home economics, and a vocational agriculture building. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on September 17, 1990. Today, a farm house, barn, chicken house, smokehouse, and an outdoor bathroom have been added to the 13-acre site to recreate the FSA appearance.

Some of these buildings can now be rented for events, birthday parties and weddings. For all renting and reservations, contact Kim Sloan at 870-809-1456.
