The Hoxie City Council approved the 2021 budget at its meeting on Jan. 12. Council members approved the budget as presented.

The council also heard an update that Memphis BBQ that had planned to purchase the old City Hall building is no longer coming to Hoxie. A reuse loan that had been previously approved for the purchase was never completed.

In addition, Mayor Dennis Coggins said two people have been to look at the former T-Rick’s gas station, but at this time there is not a commitment.

In other business the council:

Approved an ordinance that establishes city meeting procedures.

Heard from resident Paula Decker who asked about the possibility of getting new Christmas lights for 2021. It was mentioned that one business has already said they would donate toward new lights, so there was some discussion about seeking donations to purchase new lights.
