The Hoxie City Council approved the third and final reading of an ordinance to split the positions of city clerk and city treasurer at the July 14 meeting.
The clerk position will remain an elected position, while the treasurer position will be filled by the council. The same person can fill both positions.
The change, which has been recommended by the Municipal League, will go into effect when the position comes up for re-election in 2022 and the new terms begin in 2023.
Council members also discussed paying an additional $300 a month to Mayor Dennis Coggins to help offset the cost of his health insurance. He will lose his coverage in August due to aging out of the city’s insurance policy.
The council was in favor of making the change, but an ordinance is required and will be presented at next month’s meeting.
In other business:
changing the rezoning request fee to $250 was discussed. An ordinance to that effect will be presented at next month’s meeting.
council members discussed purchasing another tipper for the old garbage truck, as well as issues the city is facing with limb and non-household waste pickup. No action taken on either.
revision of the employee handbook was tabled until next month’s meeting.
