Betty Lou Maxie, 82, of Hoxie, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2020, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Walnut Ridge.

She was born Dec. 27, 1937, in Paducah, Ky., to Leo Choate and Viola Crawford Choate. She was a loving daughter, sister, and wife, as well as the matriarch of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild. She was a sales clerk and a homemaker and a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Billie Joe Maxie; daughter, Gale Henson; sister, Shirley Hames; brother, Calvin “Ike” Choate; and niece, Carol Stark.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Karen (Gary) Phillips of Denton; granddaughter, Jennifer (Lynn) Haskins of Walnut Ridge; grandson, Kenn Langston of Hoxie; great-grandsons, Logan (Madison) Haskins of Paragould and Kenneth Langston III of Hoxie; great-great-granddaughter, Izzy Haskins of Paragould; and niece, Margie (Dave) Schindler of Matthews, N.C.

Visitation was Monday, Oct. 12, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home. Graveside services were Monday at 3 p.m. at Lawrence Memorial Park with Bro. Harold Russell officiating.
