Kenneth L. Whitmire, 77, of Joy, Ill., formerly of Walnut Ridge, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021, in his home.

Kenny was born June 21, 1943, in Ash Flat, to Isaac and Alta Moore Whitmire. He attended the local schools and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1963-1969. Kenny was united in marriage to Wanda R. Whitlow on Jan. 26, 1964, in New Boston, Ill.

He was employed at Boney’s Farm Store for 10 years. Kenny then owned and operated KW Tire Service and Test Lane in Joy until becoming manager of the Joy Grain Elevator, retiring in 2015.

Kenny was a member of the Joy United Methodist Church, New Boston Masonic Lodge #59 and an honorary member of the Aledo Masonic Lodge #252. He loved his time with his grandkids and great-grandkids. Kenny enjoyed gardening, fishing, mushroom hunting and being outdoors.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda; two sons, Coby (Sue) Whitmire of Joy, and Thad (Kelly) Whitmire of Aledo, Ill.; five grandchildren, Felicia, Dillon, Renee, Emily and Karissa; five great-grandchildren, Trevor, Kylee, Chloe, Kenneth and Claire; six sisters, Juanita King of Taylor Ridge, Ill., Marie Robins of Granite City, Ill., Loretta Croom, Barb Eagan and Pam Smith, all of Walnut Ridge and Nancy Earl of Joy, Ill.; two brothers, Harold Whitmire of Monmouth, Ill., and Jerry Whitmire of Aledo, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister and one brother.

Cremation has been accorded.

Visitation was Wednesday, Feb. 3, at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo, Ill. Masonic services followed the visitation. Burial will be at a later date. Memorials may be left to the Westmer Larger Parish or the First Baptist Church of Joy.
