Ronald C. Matthews, 75, of Walnut Ridge, died Feb. 5, 2021, at his residence, following a lengthy illness.

Born March 19, 1945 in Denton, he was the son of the late Dueren and Lucy Davis Matthews. Ronald was united in marriage to Carolyn S. Miller in 1964. In 1968, he received the Purple Heart for wounds received in action in Vietnam, serving with the U.S. Army. He was a machinist for J.I. Case Company and of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed playing the guitar, singing, and listening to bluegrass music. Besides his beloved family, he had a love for hot rods and stock cars.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Ray Matthews.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn, of the home; one son, Tim (Danielle Bowen) Matthews of Washington, Ill.; three step-grandchildren, Ember Bowen, Jesslyn Sours and Skyler Sours; three great step-grandsons, Jayce Anderson, and Aydenn and Jentry Dean; and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside service with military honors was Tuesday, Feb. 9, at noon at Oak Forrest Cemetery with Bro. Harold Russell officiating.

Pallbearers were family and friends.
