After months of proclaiming that a new website was on its way, The Times Dispatch online made its transition.
It has not been without a hiccup or two (or three). We had a period of time that nothing was loading at www.thetd.com, and we apologize for that inconvenience. That has been corrected now.
The new site has a much different look, but still offers readers the ability to view the online edition in page format, plus much more.
For those who have been online subscribers with our sister paper, The Jonesboro Sun, the new site is probably looks pretty familiar. For others, there may be a bit of a learning curve.
I wanted to offer a few tips that make navigating the site a little easier.
First, The Times Dispatch page is a sub page of The Jonesboro Sun page, so you may inadvertently click on something that takes you to the Sun website. If you do, just hit back or enter thetd.com again and you can find your way back.
Second, the first thing you are going to see are story highlights. These stories are searchable both on the website and through Google.
To get to the full e-edition, you will be looking for what looks like a photo of the front of The Times Dispatch newspaper. On most computer browser windows it will be located to the right, but on smart devices you will need to scroll down to the bottom of the highlighted stories to find the e-edition.
Once you are in the e-edition there are two different viewing options, which you can select at the top of the screen. You can view as “text” or as “page.”
The “text” view will show you all highlighted stories with a small image of the page to the left, while the “page” view will show you a large version of the page that you can scroll through.
In addition, there is a menu to the left that allows you to view previous editions and download the paper or specific pages in PDF format.
For a limited time the new online edition is available with no log in required, so now is the perfect time to see what the site has to offer.
With more options to share highlights, photos, and more, we look forward to using the new website to better serve our readers in the future.
